THREE TO EIGHT.
DEAL IT RIGHT.
President works with 3–8 players. Compare deck size, cards per hand, title roles, and the card tax for every table size, then print a quick reference.
President is best with four to six players, but the game works cleanly from three through eight. The table size changes the hand length, title ladder, card tax, and whether one deck is still comfortable.

These are Bleach’s automatic deck settings. Every card is dealt, so players at some table sizes begin with one card more than others.

Three-player President
Three players receive long hands—18, 17, and 17 cards from one deck—so there is time to build and protect combinations. The social ladder is compact: President, Citizen, and Asshole or Scum. Bleach exchanges one card between first and last before the next round.
This is the minimum table size because two players would remove the middle of the hierarchy and make passes, pile control, and the card tax far more predictable.
Four to six players
Four to six is the practical sweet spot. Four players get an exact 13-card deal. Five introduces one Citizen and uneven 11- or 10-card hands. Six produces four 9-card hands and two 8-card hands, with enough players to make passes useful information without making every turn slow.
At these sizes, first and last exchange two cards while Vice President and Vice Asshole exchange one. That gives the next round a visible hierarchy without changing every hand beyond recognition.
Seven- and eight-player President
Bleach switches to two decks at seven seats. Seven players receive six 15-card hands and one 14-card hand; eight players receive 13 each. The duplicate ranks create more pairs, triples, four of a kind, and equal-rank suit comparisons than a one-deck game.
A large table is noisier and less predictable, which suits a party. Use a turn timer if the group tends to stall, and explain how duplicate cards compare before the opening deal.
Player-count FAQ
What is the best number of players for President?
Four to six players gives President its clearest mix of quick turns, useful pairs, and a meaningful title ladder. Three works well for a small group, while seven or eight is livelier with two decks.
Can three people play President?
Yes. With one 52-card deck, one player receives 18 cards and two receive 17. The finish order is President, Citizen, and Asshole or Scum, with a one-card tax before a rematch.
How many cards does each player get in President?
Deal every card as evenly as possible. With Bleach’s automatic deck setting, hands range from 8–18 cards depending on the table size; four players and eight players both receive exactly 13 each.
When should President use two decks?
Bleach automatically uses one deck for three to six players and two decks for seven or eight. A physical group can use two decks sooner if it wants longer hands and more duplicate combinations.
Can two people play President?
Traditional President depends on a finish-order hierarchy and is not a strong two-player game. Bleach starts at three seats; for two people, choose a card game designed for head-to-head play.
Hand counts are calculated from the same round-robin deal and automatic deck sizing used by Bleach. Read the complete rules or open a free table for three to eight players.
