President, Asshole, and Scum usually name the same climbing card game: empty your hand first, earn a social rank, and tax the last-place player next round.
If you remember a game where everybody races to empty their hand, first place becomes President, and last place surrenders their best cards, you almost certainly remember this family of games.
Are President and Asshole the same card game?
Usually, yes. “President” is the broadly usable name; “Asshole” names the same social ladder more bluntly. “Scum” is another common version. Rules vary by group, but the identity survives: climb equal-sized sets, empty your hand, assign titles, and advantage the winner in the next deal.

What about Daifugō and Daihinmin?
The Japanese game Daifugō, also called Daihinmin, is a close relative with the same rich-versus-poor hierarchy. It has its own large ecosystem of regional rules, including revolutions, suit locks, skips, and special cards. Treat it as a related rules family rather than assuming every move matches the President version you learned.
Is Big Two the same game?
No. Big Two is another climbing and shedding game, so the turn structure can feel familiar and 2 is also powerful. But Big Two commonly allows poker-like five-card combinations and uses more extensive suit ranking. President is distinguished by its finish-order titles and between-round card tax.
Why Bleach uses all three names
Bleach is the product name, not a claim that the underlying folk game is new. Calling it “President, also known as Asshole or Scum” helps people recognize the game they already know while giving the table one stable online ruleset.
It is unrelated to the manga and anime trading-card games that also use the word Bleach. This Bleach is a browser implementation of President for private groups of three to eight players.
